About Maya
A seasoned writer, strategist, and coach, I have devoted my life and work to confronting injustice and creating a more equitable world. I’ve held many creative and communications roles, from editing a book to directing communications departments, campaigns, and strategies, and shepherding some incredible with movement and philanthropy partners. I am also a certified transformational coach, student of somatic practice, organizer for racial justice, and parent to two awesome kids.
I received a Master’s degree in International Development with a focus on human rights, social justice and gender studies from the Institute of Social Studies, The Hague, Netherlands, and a B.A. in Community Studies from the University of California, Santa Cruz. Moving to the U.S. in childhood, I grew up in California and now live in Portland, Oregon, the ancestral and unceded land of the Multnomah and many other tribes who have made their homes along the Columbia River.
